I'm a big fan of Sam Soffes, original creator of Cheddar and more recently Shares.app and Coins.app. I'm in awe of the apps that he produces, so I think it's absolutely brilliant news to see that he's partnered with Josh Long to follow up on Josh's and Drew Wilson's Execute book to create Execute iOS.
Execute iOS is a three day course in iOS development that teaches you how to create Execute app.
Since I'm just getting into iOS development properly, this couldn't have came at a better time for me! I've wanted to know how Sam writes his applications and this will be the perfect guide for me. What's different and unique about Execute iOS is that Josh himself is being taught by Sam, so it's almost as if you're sat with him yourself learning. A mentor almost.
The course comes with:
- Source Code
And covers a fairly wide range of topics for iOS:
- Programming basics from scratch—in an hour. No previous experience required.
- Interacting with views on the screen
- Working with text fields
- Using built-in views
- Basic animations
- Saving data
- More table view techniques
- Implement custom design
- Final polish
- Submitting to the App Store
Whilst I've been able to learn about a few of these myself, it'll be interesting to see how the professionals do it. I'm also very interested to learn about custom designs and saving data as these are two topics I've had a tough time with.
The app that you learn to create is the actual Execute app, which looks like this:
As you can see it's using a custom design and looks really nice.
The course is available for preorder at $100 which I have to say sounds like a right bargain to me!
Now I just need to sweeten my other half into allowing me to buy this wonderful course!
