I use my picture everywhere: Gravatar, Facebook, Twitter etc and I've never had a problem with this — although I know that some people never use their actual portrait — however, since I rarely use the same picture of me twice I've created what I'm calling a broken brand and it's time that I fixed this.
A couple of weeks ago I clicked through to a blog and the first thing that I noticed was that the guys logo was a beard. Just a lovely vector beard. I've been wanting to have a logo designed for my online profiles and blogs for a long time, but as life is, never got around to doing so, but when I saw this beard I knew I had to.
I immediately got in contact with a friend of mine, @eliotflynn whose work I've always admired. Eliot and I use to develop PC games together during school and his style of artwork and creativity has always impressed me.
My requirements were relatively simple (I hope):
- I want to highlight my features; hair, eyebrows, glasses and that bit of stubble I can never be bothered to shave.
- It's got to be a vector. I want to blow it up and shrink it down.
- And I had a very particular style that I knew Eliot was capable of.
He's delivered and I've been blown away by just how good it is!
Because of how the file has been created, I'm able to split myself in half. Sometimes a portrait image just doesn't fit (Google profile picture...) and so I can just use my head, brows and glasses which is still instantly recognisable as me.
I'm already looking at designing some new business cards and getting some stickers printed to show off my awesome self.
I'll be updating all of my profile pictures to the full or half image as I come across them (I wish everything used Gravatar...).
And yes, Eliot is currently available for work, so if you're after something, just let him know!
